Sustainable forest-based enterprises can offer a transitory pathway toward a low-carbon future. This Rio+20 side event will highlight the role of forests and industry in fostering local livelihoods at the resource base and enabling product transitions to low-carbon bio-economy among consumers.
Participants will learn more profoundly how the forestry sector can propose concrete steps for a more sustainable future. Increasingly, the climate-smart management of forests and wise use of trees are seen as a collaborative effort between the public custodians of forests, private enterprises and local communities. Non-governmental organizations (NGO's) play an important role in encouraging appropriate levels of conservation and environmental protection.
Simultaneous interpretation will be provided for English-Spanish and Spanish-Portuguese.
