EUROSAC Grand Prix 2010

EUROSAC Grand Prix 2010
"Terra Bag" by Mondi: Winner of the EUROSAC Grand Prix 2010

This year’s EUROSAC congress “Naturally Sustainable” took place in Stockholm, the first “European Green Capital”, from June 10 to 12.
The main criterion for the EUROSAC Grand Prix thus was that the sack had to be a direct relation with Nature and Sustainable Development. The jury members were Giovanni Fiorini and Alfred Rockenfeller (paper sack manufacturers from Italy and Germany) and Eric Schubert (kraft paper manufacturer from South Africa).

The winner was the “Terra Bag”, developed by Mondi Industrial Bags. Terra Bag is a paper sack with one or more plies of paper with a biodegradable film for humidity protection. The sack is certified according to EN 13432, entirely biodegradable and optimised for industrial composting, turning waste into valuable humus. It has a reduced environmental impact and reduced CO2 emissions and saves non-renewable resources.

EUROSAC Grand Prix 2009

Sack "Super Seven" by Sacchettificio Nazionale G. Corazza

EUROSAC, the European Federation of Multiwall Paper Sack Manufacturers, rewards the best paper sack in the areas of sustainable development, high quality printing, safety and/or innovation. The sack must be in production and on sale to a customer.
The jury, composed of Bengt Nordin, Senior Advisor to Eurosac, Sören Slotte from UPM-Kymmene in Finland (kraft paper manufacturer) and Antonio Bellè from Valvosacco in Italy (paper sack manufacturer), had to make its choice among the 7 entries received.
The winner was the “SuperSeven Sack”, developed by the Italian company Sacchettificio Nazionale G. Corazza. This sack is a high-tech aluminium-coated paper sack with seven essential features: barrier to light / barrier to moisture / barrier to oxygen / barrier to carbon dioxide / high strength and sturdiness / excellent heat sealability / high-tech feeling. The sack which won the Grand Prix is of silver colour, printed on a white glossy paper with UV lack.
The jury also gave a special award to the sack “Sucre Poudre” by the French company Smurfit Kappa Lembacel. The jury appreciated that this sack is particularly user friendly with its handles, closure system, easy opening, lamination and ultra-sonic or thermal sealing.

EUROSAC GRAND PRIX 2008

EUROSAC has rewards the paper sack of the year 2008 at its Annual Congress in Madrid.

The sack had to be in production and on sale to a customer and be outstanding in the areas of sustainable development, high quality printing, safety and/or innovation.

The jury, composed of Olaf Stief from Windmöller & Hölscher in Germany (sack machine manufacturer), Magnus Olovsson from Billerud in Sweden (kraft paper manufacturer) and Larry Challis from Amcor St Regis Bates in Australia (paper sack manufacturer), had to make its choice among the 11 valid entries received.
The winner was the “Sheekan bag”, developed by Smurfit Kappa Lembacel. The innovation here is the lack of microperforations and grooves, allowing a better deaeration of the sack during filling (thus increasing the filling speed) while offering a better barrier to the product than usual sacks.

The 57th EUROSAC Annual Congress
The EUROSAC GRAND PRIX 2008 was awarded at the occasion of the 57th EUROSAC Annual Congress which took place in Madrid from June 5 to 7, 2008, in cooperation with FEDES. The newly elected EUROSAC Chairman, Loïc Bernard, had the pleasure to give the award to Christian Latorre, General Manager of the winning company, in the presence of the about 100 congress participants.
The Annual Congress provides an essential platform for the European paper sack industry to present and discuss the most important topics. This year, the main presentations covered the analysis of statistics (European and US-American), “Carbon Footprint”, which is a new challenge for the industry, and the results of the French LCA (Life Cycle Assessment) study on Carrier Bags, which EUROSAC has supported.
